CHALLENGE /

Being one of the very first centers executed in 1999 on Tahlia Street, Jeddah’s major commercial strip, the design draws on the connection between the building and the people passing-by, mostly by car.

CONCEPT /

The building acts as a huge display window at the scale of the city. The slabs of both ground and mezzanine floors are offset from the skin, allowing the basement level to be submerged with natural light and undetached from its upper floors. At night, the building becomes a light box flooding the neighboring area with warm light and mysteriously drawing the passing-by in. Although the skin is predominantly composed of double glazed panels, the building gives an impression of sturdiness, with its triple volume arches clad by Jordanian stone tiles standing firm and accentuating the entrances to the different showrooms.
