This project involves the redesign of an existing beachfront residence in Durrat Al Aroos, where the primary constraint was working within a fully constructed concrete structure. The intervention required a strategic architectural approach to reinterpret the building’s identity without altering its fundamental massing, while aligning the outcome with the client’s preference for a contemporary Greek-inspired aesthetic.
The design focuses on redefining the building through materiality, proportion, and spatial sequencing rather than structural modification. A restrained palette of white masonry, natural stone, and treated blue-painted wood establishes a clear Mediterranean character, enhancing the villa’s relationship with its coastal setting.
A key architectural gesture is the introduction of a stone-clad external gallery that connects the street level to the beach-facing lower ground floor. This element not only provides a strong spatial transition between levels but also breaks down the verticality of the façade, introducing rhythm and depth. It further reframes previously unresolved curved volumes, integrating them into a more coherent composition and transforming the overall architectural expression into a balanced and contextually responsive beachfront residence.
