This project involves the extension of an existing villa on a steep, longitudinal site in Baakline, where the topography plays a defining role in shaping the architectural response. The intervention accommodates a 485 m² apartment on the first lower level, a 590 m² multipurpose hall on the second, and a 540 m² parking and gym facility on the third, all carefully integrated within the natural slope of the land.
The design is driven by a strategy of minimal disruption, working with the existing terrain and retaining structures rather than against them. The extension is embedded into the hillside, allowing the original ground level and garden to extend seamlessly over the new built volumes as landscaped roofs, preserving the continuity of the outdoor environment.
At the upper level, the architectural expression is intentionally restrained, limited to a glazed vertical circulation core housing the lift and staircase. This element acts as a visual anchor while connecting all levels of the extension. Internally, a courtyard carved into the slope introduces natural light and ventilation into the lower levels, enhancing spatial quality. Externally, a sequence of terraces, slopes, and steps links the different levels, following the logic of the existing stepped gardens and reinforcing a continuous dialogue between architecture and landscape.
