EXTENSION
DOWN THE SLOPE
BAAKLINE - LEBANON

CHALLENGE /
The unique topographical aspect of the land, being longitudinal and slanted, dictated the design approach of this extension for an existing villa in Baakline, which houses a 485 m² apartment on the first lower level, a 590 m² multipurpose hall with its facilities on the second lower level, and a 540 m² internal parking space with a gymnasium on the third lower level.
CONCEPT /
The design concept stemmed from the topography of the land, preserving and working within the limits of the existing slopes and retaining walls. The villa’s ground level and external yard extend onto the landscaped roof of the new additional structure. At this level, the only mass intervention is the glazed vertical circulation core which comprises a lift and staircase, adjacent to a courtyard garden on the first lower level flooding the corridor with natural light and ventilation. All three different levels are connected through their landscaped roofs and terraces by slopes and steps that follow downwards the horizontality of the existing stepped gardens.
